Overview

General practice is demanding, fast-moving, and constantly evolving. Our training and development programmes are designed to support the people at the heart of it, helping you build confidence, capability, and resilience at every stage of your career.

From understanding how general practice works, to developing leadership skills and preparing future system leaders, our programmes are practical, values-led, and rooted in the real challenges faced by practices across Devon.

They are fully funded for members and delivered in supportive, collaborative settings that prioritise learning, connection, and reflection.

Introduction to General Practice

A practical supportive foundation for working in General Practice

Our Introduction to General Practice sessions provide a comprehensive, supportive induction for those who are new – or relatively new – to general practice.

Designed for GPs, nurses, clinical staff, practice managers, senior administrators, and wider practice teams, this session strengthens understanding of how general practice operates within the NHS. It covers core contractual, financial, and system frameworks, helping attendees feel informed, confident, and better equipped to navigate their role.

This programme also offers valuable opportunities to hear directly from system partners and connect with colleagues from across Devon.

LMC Leadership Programme

Developing confident leaders and future LMC representatives.

The LMC Leadership Programme is designed for GPs with an interest in leadership, medico-politics, and the representation of general practice locally and nationally.

This programme builds understanding of the LMC, the wider system, and what it means to lead and influence effectively.

Through a mix of expert-led sessions, practical learning, and action learning, participants develop the skills and confidence needed to operate at board level, engage with the media, and act as ambassadors for the profession.

PM Leadership Development Programme

Supporting confident capable leadership at the heart of General Practice.

Our Practice Manager Leadership Development Programme is a fully funded, structured programme designed to support practice managers in leading with clarity, confidence, and compassion.

Grounded in positive leadership and wellbeing science, the programme explores topics such as strengths-based leadership, managing challenging conversations, energy management, and workplace wellbeing.

Participants are supported to apply learning directly to their practice setting, with a strong focus on sustainability, resilience, and real-world impact.

Future Leaders in General Practice

Supporting the next generation of practice leaders.

The Future Leaders in General Practice programme is an accessible, flexible leadership development offer for anyone working in general practice who wants to grow their leadership skills.

Through a series of focused modules, participants explore wellbeing, strengths, energy management, and communication, gaining practical tools they can use immediately within their teams.

Modules can be attended individually or as a full programme, allowing members to tailor learning to their interests and development needs.
