Workshop 4 – Leading Challenging Conversations in Teams
Equip yourself with essential strategies for managing difficult conversations, a crucial skill for leaders and managers. This module delves into techniques for providing constructive feedback, understanding the difference between being nice and being kind, and fostering open, honest communication.
Practice Manager Leadership Development Programme Overview
General practice is operating in an increasingly demanding environment. Alongside delivering high-quality patient care, leaders are also responsible for supporting staff wellbeing, maintaining strong team relationships, and ensuring practices remain effective and sustainable.
Leadership capability within practices has a significant impact on team culture, staff wellbeing, and overall practice performance. This programme is designed to support GP practice leaders in developing practical leadership approaches that strengthen teams and help practices thrive in a complex healthcare environment. Strong leadership not only supports staff wellbeing but also contributes to team stability, staff retention, and the long-term sustainability of practices.
The programme equips participants with practical, evidence-informed leadership tools to support team wellbeing, strengthen communication, and create the conditions where teams can perform at their best. It combines insights from leadership research, positive psychology, and real-world primary care leadership, with practical approaches that participants can immediately apply within their own practices.
Participants attend the full six-workshop programme, allowing leadership capability to develop progressively over time.
This pathway enables leaders to:
• strengthen their leadership approach
• develop practical tools for managing teams
• apply learning between sessions
• build supportive peer networks with other practice leaders
Participants also take part in action learning sets and one-to-one coaching, providing space to reflect on leadership challenges, apply learning in practice, and receive personalised support between workshops.
