Overview
Working in General Practices means navigating constant change – new information, shifting priorities, and competing demands. In that environment, it’s not always easy to find time to step back and reflect on what it all means.
The Thread offers space for that reflection.
Published bi-monthly, it brings together insight from across the LMC to explore the themes, pressures and questions shaping General Practice in Devon. Rather than listing updates, it focuses on perspective – connecting national direction with local experience, and policy with day-to-day reality.
Each edition is designed to be read when you have time to pause.
The first edition of The Thread will be published on 1st May 2026.
What you’ll find in The Thread
Each edition of The Thread offers thoughtful, leadership-led editorial content, including:
- Reflection on current themes affecting General Practice
- Context around why certain issues matter locally
- Insight drawn from leadership, representation and lived experience
- A sense of connection to the wider picture, beyond the day-to-day
- The Thread isn’t about providing answers or instructions, it’s about clearing space to think, reflect, and feel part of a shared conversation.
How this fits with other updates
The Thread sits alongside our other communications, each with a clear purpose:
- News and updates: keeps you up to date with the latest news and developments affecting General Practice in Devon, including key updates from our monthly negotiations meetings, the latest from the General Practitioners Committee England (GPCE), and insight from our Executive Team on local issues.
- Knowledge Hub: is a central space for clear, practical guidance to support day-to-day work in General Practice. It offers clarity, reassurance, and shared insight to support practice teams.
- The Committee Journal: provides transparency on priorities, themes, and issues raised through the Committee, sharing insight from discussions alongside updates on current operational and clinical topics affecting General Practice. Together, this supports a clear, responsive flow of information and feedback between practices and the LMC, strengthening connection, transparency, and shared understanding.
- The Thread: offers reflection and perspective – exploring what developments mean in practice, and how different issues connect.
Together, these spaces are designed to support both immediate awareness and longer-term understanding.
A note on the Operational Brief
This has been retired. Operational and time critical updates continue to be shared via News and Updates, where they can be accessed quickly and easily. The Thread offers something different; a slower pace, a reflective tone, and space to consider the bigger picture.
Why “The Thread”?
Each edition draws together different strands – policy, leadership, lived experience and local context, helping connect the dots and hold the wider picture in view.
The name is a deliberate nod to the golden thread of engagement that runs from practices, through the LMC, and into local and national policy-making arenas.
It reflects how insight, challenge and experience from the frontline shapes our work, ensuring your voice is carried, connected and represented – not lost in standalone updates.
Frequency of Publication
The Thread is published bi-monthly on 1st of the month.
