Clinical Pharmacy Technician

Pharmacy within primary care is changing and we are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to work alongside our Clinical Pharmacist to develop and enhance the service provided to Nexus Primary Care Network (PCN).

Nexus PCN constitutes of 5 GP surgeries across Exeter. We are a forward thinking and innovative network - therefore the ability to think outside the box will be essential. In addition to working alongside our clinical pharmacist you will be part of a larger MDT and as such the list of job roles will continue to develop as the PCN becomes more established. You will be expected and encouraged to continue your own individual learning and professional development.

The successful candidate will have certification in BTEC/City & Guilds in Pharmaceutical Sciences/NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences and be Registered with the GPHC.

The role ideally will be full time at 37.5 hours per week but will consider part-time for the ideal candidate.


The purpose of the role is to lead improvements to maximise safe, cost effective best practice in prescribing to improve the quality of patient care. The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines by switching medications to agreed and approved protocols, improving repeat prescribing processes in general practices, including promotion of repeat dispensing and online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines.

In addition, the post holder will be responsible for encouraging the development of better understanding of the principles of medicines optimisation throughout the practice teams and promoting good practice in line with therapeutic developments. This will involve assisting the GP Network in achieving national requirements, NICE implementation and utilisation of medicines optimisation initiatives.
