Chelston Hall Surgery in Torquay is looking to recruit a new salaried GP, with the option to discuss partnership in the future. We are a large, forward-thinking GMS training practice operating over two sites, involved in the training of GPs, medical students, nurses, paramedics and overseas doctors. We are proud of our dedicated multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. We are affiliated with Plymouth University, and one Partner is an Associate Dean responsible for GP trainees in Torbay.

We are looking for a GP who would like to work 4-8 sessions per week, and salary ranges from £9,000 to £10,500 per session depending on experience and responsibility. Flexible working hours can be negotiated according to our tiered system, and we would welcome portfolio GPs. We offer all salaried GPs a mentor for at least six months with no list, protected administration time and the flexibility to review these arrangements when appropriate. A typical session consists of 17 appointments, which can be a mixture of face to face and telephone appointments. Home visits are mostly done by our Paramedic and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. We can offer support with applying for the post-CCT fellowship scheme, and all Partners are keen to invest time in meeting prospective candidates to ensure a good fit.

Indemnity is provided by the practice via a group scheme with the MDU. The practice offers a standard BMA model contract which includes six weeks annual leave plus one week of study leave and an NHS pension. If you are looking to relocate, then in addition to being on the coast with amazing coastal walks and Dartmoor nearby, we also have excellent primary and secondary education with three grammar schools in the bay.

We also have an approachable and dynamic group of managers and an excellent administration team, which we are planning to develop further. Our Continued Professional Development is supported by regular Clinical Meetings and we also have a monthly senior clinicians “Action and Decision Group” to develop clinical pathways and processes. We really value our daily coffee breaks to develop our team relationships and support each other in our work.

We have recently become a Training Practice for GP Registrars and host medical students throughout the academic year. We are also looking into research and other opportunities to develop our practice. We are a happy proactive team who will listen to your ideas, support your development and give you the opportunity to succeed and grow.

I am retiring in the spring of 2023, have a great bunch of patients, and would like to leave them in good hands.

I currently do 8 sessions a week over four days. I do Minor Ops and Dermoscopy and can train you up in those.

I have three great partners and we are mutually supportive. We believe in the partnership model and would hope that an incoming doctor does too.

We have four very good Advanced Nurse Practitioners who really augment our service.

Two final year GP trainees are about to start.

I would hope to attract a doctor who would have a view to taking over my list - we run personal lists because we all like continuity.

I would offer support while reducing my number of sessions, so that you could get to know how the practice, the patients and the locality works.

I am flexible and the amount I would reduce would depend on the number of sessions you want to start with.

You would not need to commit to 8 sessions in the long run. We keep the number of patients pro rata with your commitment.

This job would suit someone starting as a salaried doctor who is thinking of a long term commitment.

Plymouth is a great place to live and bring up your children. Great sea, beaches and the moor. And easy to get ahead of the rush to Cornwall in the summer.

Go on, get in touch and let me tell you more. grant.wills@nhs.net

Practice: Symphony Healthcare Services Ltd

Website

Symphony Healthcare Services (SHS) is a rapidly growing NHS Primary Care organisation in the south-west. We are designing new ways to meet our changing patient needs and transforming healthcare services.

SHS is an NHS organisation and subsidiary of Yeovil District Hospital and was established in April 2016 as part of the Symphony Programme vanguard. Since then, we have rapidly grown to support a network of 11 GP practices and caring for over 84,000 patients.

SHS’s approach is designed to empower clinicians and health professionals to deliver the care they aspire to.  It enables you to work in a more collaborative way to ensure patients are getting the right care, delivered at the right time, by the right service and it is creating innovative new roles which allow GPs to use their skills and experience more effectively than ever before.

We are now looking to recruit a number of GP’s to deliver our new Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) model. The EPC model is underpinned by a patient centred approach, ensuring patients goals are held central to decision making as a fundamental element of the holistic care proposed. The GP will lead and supervise a multidisciplinary team and work with the wider healthcare community to promote patient independence, utilising self-management principles and patient activation. It is an opportunity for clinical leadership with a new way of caring for our patients by identifying risks and preventing problems before they arise. We can also offer opportunities for extended roles in other areas of interest such as in the Complex Care Hub or within Acute Specialties, i.e. paediatrics, emergency medicine, acute medicine or care of the elderly, or in research and development, education and training, etc.

We are a well established forward thinking practice working hard to provide an equitable work life balance for all of our team. We believe that work should be completed in working hours and buy in in the multidisciplinary team model. Supplementary to our three GPs we employ two Pharmacists, a Practice Based Mental Health Nurse, and two Chronic Disease Nurses who have trained in Minor Ailments. We have a very experienced highly skilled team which works well together producing a supportive, friendly environment.

We are very lucky to be based in modern, purpose built newish premises, providing care to approx. 7800 patients. Situated in Devonport, Plymouth we are just a hop and a ferry across the water to the golden beaches of Cornwall and a short drive onto Dartmoor National Park. At the end of the day you can enjoy some downtime on the beach surfing, hiking across the moors or paddling around in Plymouth Sound.

Devonport has historically been a deprived area and has had regeneration monies over the last 15 to 20 years to improve the quality of life of its population. Life expectation has improved greatly and we have seen life expectancy rates increase by seven years during the last 20 years or so.

We are looking for an enthusiastic salaried GP for 4 to 6 sessions per week with a view to partnership. Our very Senior Partner is due to retire in the next 2 to 3 years!! We are willing to discuss the potential options of part time home working and there would be scope to accommodate a portfolio GP with special interests.

We operate an open door policy and scheduled coffee breaks to support our team. We meet twice per week to encompass all practice sharing of problems and clear communication.

We train for a diverse future in General Practice and currently support Year 5 Medical Students, Student Nurses, Student Pharmacists and Physician Associates. We would encourage the successful candidate with any further teaching they harbour..

We are actively involved in the Waterside Health Primary Care Network. The network supports Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, First Contact Physiotherapists, paramedics and will soon be one of the Pilot sites for the Mental Health Framework in addition to working on the ICOPE frailty project. As a group of practices we work well together to improve the lives of our shared population.

The successful candidate would not only be part of the Devonport Health Centre family but the Waterside Health Network family too.

We use SystmOne, Ardens templates and reporting. We are keen to pilot new IT and were part of the Devon Digital Acceleration project adopting total triage via e-consult. We achieve high scores in QOF.

For further information please contact Sharon Kershaw, Practice Manager on 01752 561500 Option 3 or Sharon.kershaw@nhs.net. We are happy to arrange an informal visit to look around the practice and meet the team.

General Practice is still enjoyable – true or false?

It’s true!

Come and join a young team of committed doctors (8 partners, 4 salaried) in beautiful Truro and find out for yourself.

We are looking to replace a retiring partner with someone working 6-8 sessions per week, initially salaried but with a view to partnership, which we believe leads to better engagement.

With commanding views over the city and cathedral, Lander Medical Practice is steadily growing and moved to modern premises about 10 years ago.

The building – Truro Health Park -  is leased and shared with our sister practice within the PCN (Three Spires) and also houses other services within easy reach including community nurses, acute care at home, CAMHS, in house physiotherapy, podiatry, pharmacy and dentistry. We also benefit from our proximity to the local hospital, RCH Treliske.

We are supported by excellent staff, use Systmone and have a current list of 20,000 patients. QOF achievement is at or near maximum, 3 of the partners are trainers and we have a strong relationship with Exeter Medical School, with regular student attachments.

Clinical meetings are held monthly.

The practice owns a branch Surgery in Threemilestone which serves the western part of the City and returns rent from an independent pharmacy and other ventures.

Truro itself has many attractions and is well connected by both road and rail; local beaches are a perennial draw but there is much else to discover in this fascinating county and its history.

If this sounds enjoyable to you then please contact jana.gilfillan@nhs.net

Shortlisting will occur within 4 weeks of the closing date which is Oct 15th.
