Quality of life is important, we structure our workload and support each other finishing by 6pm is normal. Consultation slots are 15 mins and we run a Duty day system led by our allied health professionals with GP support.

We are passionate about advancing Primary Care to meet the current and future challenges; we want not only to be resilient and sustainable whilst providing high quality care, we want Primary Care to be enjoyable and vibrant. We are currently embracing change, adapting and evolving through the Covid-19 Pandemic with patients being managed through telephone and video consultations along with e-Consult. Patients are seen face-to-face where these tools are not appropriate.

 

A typical “pre-Covid-19” session consisted of 14 face-to-face appointments with a mixture of 15 minute routine slots and on-the-day triaged appointments. Duty surgeries are carried out in pairs. Our Paramedics undertake the vast majority of the home visits and our prescribing Pharmacist team manages medication queries and reviews, along with repeat prescriptions. We aim to finish daily by 6pm. We meet daily for coffee breaks and operate an ‘open doors’ policy. There are regular educational meetings and socials throughout the year.

St Thomas Medical Group in Exeter are looking for two part-time Partners to join them in 2021.

In 1969, a number of local practices amalgamated to form the St Thomas Medical Group and occupied the first purpose-built health centre in the South West. Having celebrated our 50th year in 2019, the Group has expanded to provide medical services to a population of circa 41000 patients operating from three sites.

Our GP Partners work across the Group, based at all sites: St Thomas Health Centre, Exwick Health Centre and the University of Exeter Student Health Centre on campus. In addition the Group has 18 salaried doctors, and employs a total of 97 nurses, allied healthcare professionals including pharmacists and paramedics, occupational therapist, health and well-being coach, physios and administrative and ancillary staff.

For the past 15 years the Group has been closely involved with Exeter University Medical School and the Exeter Vocational Training Scheme for the provision of undergraduate and postgraduate training. The Group welcomes regular visits by students and currently has four attached GP registrars.

We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of delivering innovative healthcare, in the form of specialised student healthcare clinics, nurse-led minor illness clinics, visiting paramedic services, being an early adopter of online consultations, and being a provider of specialised vasectomy services and headache clinics for the county.

The Group was proud to have been awarded an outstanding rating on its first CQC inspection in October 2014, and again in January 2018. We were especially commended for being a ‘well-run’ organisation.
