DEVON'S GENERAL PRACTICE ALERT STATE
Last update 20th May currently suspended until 5 June due to an upgrade
The pressures facing the Acute Trusts are well publicised and captured by the OPEL Framework. General Practice has had no equivalent and so it is easy for Government, patients and other Health Care providers to assume that things are not so bad in this part of the Primary Care system. DEVON LMC has designed this simple GP Alert State which relies on a weekly return from Practices who are asked to report their Alert Status and locality. You can access an explanation below.
COUNTY WIDE ALERT STATUS
Currently GREEN (57% return rate)
Meaning: Practices are running normally with resources largely in balance, patient waiting times are acceptable and communications with external stakeholders are at routine levels. The Green state is sustainable in the long term.
NORTH DEVON
Currently GREEN
Meaning: Practices are running normally with resources largely in balance, patient waiting times are acceptable and communications with external stakeholders are at routine levels. The Green state is sustainable in the long term.
EAST DEVON
Currently GREEN
Meaning: Practices are running normally with resources largely in balance, patient waiting times are acceptable and communications with external stakeholders are at routine levels. The Green state is sustainable in the long term.
SOUTH DEVON
Currently GREEN
Meaning: Practices are running normally with resources largely in balance, patient waiting times are acceptable and communications with external stakeholders are at routine levels. The Green state is sustainable in the long term.
WEST DEVON
Currently AMBER
Meaning Practices are running with some staff/resource shortage, patient waiting times are acceptable and communications with external stakeholders are at slightly elevated levels. The Amber state is sustainable in the medium term only.
Analysis
The County wide assessment continues as GREEN. The impact of COVID-19 on the workforce has reduced again this week and now sits at 5% with an ambient level of absence static at 2%. Although a disappointing return from the West, possibly an indication of returning pressure, those Practices returning an assessment clearly indicate that the locality is now AMBER. This is supported by anecdotal information from members that what might be termed ‘BAU’ is returning at pace.
The LMC is currently trialling the collection of more granular anonymous data which we will share as soon as we have proven the system and asked practices to participate.
